After New York, Berlin is the city in the world most associated with street art.
One of the most famous urban art projects can be found here, the East Side Gallery. It’s the largest remaining section of the wall which runs along the river Spree, dividing the suburbs of Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg. It’s also the largest open air gallery in the world. After the fall of the Wall, artists came from all over the world to paint murals on this surviving section. At the 20th anniversary celebrations in 2009, the gallery got a makeover as the original artists were invited back to repaint their murals.
Most of the photos below taken around the RAW Gelände, a former railway workshop in Friedrichshain, it is now a grimy urban art space with bars, galleries, clubs, swimming pool and skate park.
