Christchurch is a city in the south island of New Zealand. A large part of the central city was destroyed in a series of devastating earthquakes. Out of the rubble emerged an opportunity for local street artists to enliven dull edifices.
Many of the empty spaces have been converted into car parks, hence the many cars blocking the shots. Others, including a stunning painting of a ballerina have been partially or totally obscured by new buildings, constructed after the works were painted.
Much of the art on display here was done by local artist Jakob Yikes.
