Around 10 years ago, Christchurch was hit by a devastating earthquake. After a slow start, the city has rebuilt and rejuvenated itself into New Zealand’s most desirable urban location. The former dull and boring inner city was beautified by commissioning local grafitti artists to paint murals on the buildings left standing. See my photos from the first generation of street art here. These empty spaces were turned into carparks. Now, many architecturally unique and eco-friendly buildings have sprung up. New food markets, cafes and dining areas have been built amidst the introduction of new walkways, cycle lanes and park. The city is not content to rest on its laurels however, and some of the original artists have been commissioned to add even more new and innovative art works. This is the second volume of my Christchurch street art series. Enjoy!
