The Iguazu Falls are a series of waterfalls on the border between Argentina and Brazil. It is one of the highlights of all Latin America and a must-see when in Argentina or Brazil.
You can view the Falls from both sides. It’s personal preference and it’s good to see the falls from either side, but if you are pushed for time, there are more viewing positions on the Argentinian side. If you are feeling like splashing out you can also take a helicopter ride.
The Iguazu Falls are generally considered as one of the world’s top waterfalls. The Falls often vie with the Victoria Falls as the best in the world. Neither is the world’s tallest, but Iguazu is wider while the Victoria falls have the largest “curtain” of water.
The highlight is the so-called Devil’s Throat, a canyon through which the water from the Iguaza flows is spectacular. On the Argentinian, side you can view the Devil’s Throat directly from above, while on the Brazilian side you can get another perspective viewing from across the other side of the river.
Be sure to bring a pancho or other protective clothing as you will get very wet!
At the exit of the Iguazu Falls, there is a cafe where you will find yourself surrounded by racoon-like animals called Coati, who will stand on the hind legs begging for food scraps.
