Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy. It is located in the alps in the north part of the country. It is a very popular tourist spot, especially with Germans who can drive there from Munich in a few hours. In many of the hotels and restaurants, they speak German and English. At breakfast, I was usually mistaken for a German and addressed in German.
Lake Garda is very windy, so it very popular with windsurfers. You can also do paragliding there.
There are many small gorgeous historic villages around the lake. You can get round by ferry or bus. The local communities have a strong sense of civic pride – there are lovely well-maintained gardens lining the roads around the lake.
There are many villages around the lake. I stayed in Sirmione and Malcesine. Both were very nice, but full of tourists. This is why I never travel to Italy, even though it is an amazing country. It’s full of tourists on their holiday. They don’t have any interest in interacting with other travellers. Not many Italians speak English. It’s super expensive. I don’t like Italian food.
So, it’s a super beautiful place, but I wouldn’t recommend it for solo travel.
