Buenos Aires is the capital of Argentina. It is the most artistic and cultural city in South America. So, it’s no surprise that it’s a mecca for street art. There is a thriving scene here with many well known local artists. There has been a long tradition of street art as a medium of political expression. It was used extensively to protest against the military junta.
Street art is now a major tourist attraction and several tours are available. I took a walking tour with Grafittimundo, a non-profit organisation which works with and supports local artists. You learn about the history of the city and visit some neighbourhoods you might otherwise pass over as a tourist.
These photos taken in Villa Crespo, Palermo and San Telmo.
