Valparaiso
Valparaiso is a city on the coast of Chile. It was once a prosperous port town, until the opening of the Panama Canal. After that, it lost its strategic advantage and the economy started going south.
Valparaiso now has a dilapidated feel to it. The old mansions of its heydays and wooden houses have been painted brights colours. There is street art everywhere. The city is known for its artists. Strangely enough, a lot of people smoke weed.
The streets are quite steep, so the locals have built several funiculars to get you quickly from A to B.
It’s a really cool city which is not to be missed on a trip to Chile.
