Wellington is the capital city of New Zealand. It is a port, surrounded by hills, which gives it a cosy feeling. It is the best city in New Zealand to live. It is quite artsy and there is some cool art deco architecture. There are lots of opportunities to get out in the nature.
Wellington is home to the national museum in New Zealand, Te Papa. The museum houses a giant replica of the Treaty of Waitangi, a peace agreement signed between the British and Maori (native people of New Zealand).
Another highlight is Zealandia, a wildlife reserve aimed at protecting native New Zealand birds. Many of these birds are flightless and have no natural predators. Maori and later Europeans introduced pests, such as rats and stoats (a kind of weasel), which decimated the native bird population and led to extinction of many species. In Zealandia you can also see the Tuatara, a lizard-like reptile.
Wellington is also home to the Weta Workshop, a film design studio, providing special effects for movies such as Lord of the Rings and Avatar.
The main down side to Wellington is the terrible weather. Wellington is known as the “windy city” as it is the windiest city on earth.
