Isfahan is an ancient former capital of the Persian Empire and was once one of the greatest cities on earth. Isfahan is famous for its pleasant avenues and parks and its ancient Persian architecture. It is full of picturesque palaces, mosques, gardens and bridges.
The square, Naghsh-e Jahan is reputely the second biggest in the world after Tiannanmen Square in Beijing, and is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Also known as Imam square, it is very popular with families in the evenings. Imam Mosque is one of the most stunning buildings I have seen anywhere.
It would come as no surprise then, that Isfahan is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. The city is struggling to accommodate the growing number of tourists, especially large French and German tour groups, which means there high demand for hotel rooms in high season, which in Iran is spring and autumn.
